A penthouse apartment in a converted historic bank with a private roof terrace overlooking the city’s rooftops and spires. We introduced a New York ‘loft living’ aesthetic with contemporary art, stylish furnishings and a modern colour palette.

The Brief

Our client wanted a light and airy feel with a focus on modern, British-designed furniture and fabrics. Comfort, colour and boutique-style bedrooms were important, as was making a feature of the original working fireplaces. The roof terrace needed to become an extension of the apartment for evening drinks and weekend summer dining.

Design Principles

In the open plan living area we focussed on clean, minimalist furniture accented with rich colours, patterns and textures. We highlighted the unusual back-to-back fireplaces with twin mirrors and featured curated art pieces, from Hugo Guinness prints to an oversized 1950s French poster and mid-century photography. This contemporary feel was accessorised with lush greenery and zones were created with heavy-textured woven coir rugs.

The mirrored walls in the hallway created a feeling of space whilst the terrace was furnished with large sofas for summer lounging and entertaining. The dramatic wallpaper and window dressing in the bedrooms created an elegant, intimate feel with playful pops of colour. Stylish storage solutions were created throughout with bespoke joinery for the media unit and
dressing room areas.

This stunning, contemporary apartment has a comfortable, boutique feel. The clean lines, rich accents and modern art create a fabulous space for city loft living.
